Keeps Men's Hair Loss Treatment

The Bottom Line:

It took a bit of experimentation and a dose of patience, but I finally cracked my hair loss problem (thinning at the top of my crown) using Keeps Minoxidil Hair Loss treatment. The key is consistency, consistency, consistency. For me, it became much easier once I switched to the foam. It may not work 100% of the time, but if you’re serious about solving male pattern baldness, you should try it.

The Keeps review below shows my progress at 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year of treatment. Be sure to shop our exclusive Keeps offer – 50% off your first month.

Keeps performed well during our 1 year test. We started to notice improvement by month 3, but it really picked up during the final 6 months. Sticking to the regiment is the most difficult part. Nevertheless, the performance is clear. After 1 year the hair was thicker, fuller, and healthier.

How Keeps Works & Treatment Options

Keeps automates the entire process of getting hair loss treatment online. You answer simple questions about your male pattern baldness and where it’s occurring and are paired with treatment options that best suit you. The bulk of the process is in the setup and initial consultation. After that, it’s a very streamlined process for receiving your shipments and continuing or updating your treatment.

Keeps uses FDA-certified generic Finasteride and Minoxidil to solve a variety of issues associated with male pattern baldness (androgenic alopecia), including receding hairline, overall thinning and thinning at the crown (top of the head). They also offer a dandruff shampoo, that supports the treatment when combined with one of the three treatment options.

Keeps offers 3 options:

Option 1: Best for Overall Thinning Hair is a combination treatment of Finasteride (1mg tab) and Minoxidil 5% solution or foam

Option 2: Best for Receding Hairlines is Finasteride treatment of consisting of a 1mg tab, taken daily.

Option 3: Best for Thinning at the Crown (what I chose) is a 5% Minoxidil solution or foam applied topically to the scalp

Finasteride 1mg Tablet: Overview & Uses

Finasteride is generic Propecia, and is taken daily as a 1mg tablet. Finasteride squashes your baldness by helping to block the production of DHT, an androgen derived from testosterone that basically works to make your scalp’s hair follicles more susceptible to thinning hair and outright hair loss.

Finasteride is FDA-approved and has been shown to stop hair loss and even help regrow hair in patients. Finasteride is best used for overall hair loss, including a receding hairline and hair lost at the crown.

Minoxidil 5% Solution or Foam: Overview & Uses

Minoxidil is generic Rogaine and comes as a topical treatment, both as a liquid solution or aerosol-based foam spray. Both the solution and the foam are equally effective in treating male pattern baldness.

The liquid solution is applied with a dropper, while the foam is rubbed in a cap-full at a time. Minoxidil is great at slowing down hair loss, and in many cases, helps to regrow hair on your crown. Most men see results in 3-4 months. For greater hair loss, it’s recommended that you combine Minoxidil and Finasteride as part of a daily treatment plan to shore up your follicles and start to regrow your hair.

Trying Keeps 5% Minoxidil for My Thinning Crown

It was a candid photo of me facing away from the camera that made me realize, “Shit, I’m balding!” I had always run with the old adage that you inherit your maternal grandfather’s baldness genes, and since he died with a full head of hair, I figured I was probably fine. After all, if you don’t have a receding hairline, it can be hard to tell what’s going on back there. But, this was unmistakable.

As soon as I saw the photo, I started doing research, eventually learning what most of you reading this already know: some combination of finasteride, minoxidil, biotin and other assorted vitamins, is the best way for mere mortals to tackle male pattern baldness, clinically known as androgenic alopecia.

Eventually, I made my way to Keeps’ website, which I had heard of already and followed for their marketing and branding prowess. But now, as a consumer in their target demo, I had a new mission: grow some hair back on the top of my head!

I settled on the 5% Minoxidil solution, which at the time was the only option (they introduced a foam application some time later).

My Experience with Minoxidil 5% Solution: The First Six Months

The first 3-4 months are hopeful yet sobering. I realized that this isn’t a quick fix, and building the habit into my morning routine was probably the biggest hurdle to get over. It took me about a month before it was a standard part of my AM – like brushing my teeth and washing my face. I made it a habit to apply right after I washed my hair and sloshed water on my hair (and the mirror, of course), before towel drying it all down.

Using Keeps Day 1

The one downside that deterred me from using it more often was the way the solution runs through your hair and onto your forehead. Or alternatively, down the back of your neck. If I somehow forgot to do it until the end of my routine, I found myself not wanting to get wet / ruin my styled hair, so I just wouldn’t do it.

Nevertheless, I persevered, towel at the ready, and sure enough, I started to see some progress!

Below are the unedited, straight-from-my-‘Hair’-album, photos, showing the progress from Day One to around six months in.

My Experience with Minoxidil 5% Solution: 6 Months to 1 Year

With Keeps a regular part of my mornings, I started to feel more confident about my ‘do, and I was starting to notice steady results in my ‘Hair’ photo album and in the mirror. I supplemented my daily Keeps regimen with Biotin-infused shampoo for a one-two punch of follicle domination. Then, Keeps dropped the foam option, which I had seen from Rogaine, and was excited to try.

Using Keeps Day 1

The foam was a game changer. The application is much cleaner, easier and you get virtually all of the product to go exactly where you want it (versus down your forehead or neck).

I’ve now been using Keeps happily for over a year, and I’m pretty pumped with the results. Check out a 6-month and 1 year photo below. My crown is almost completely filled in – something I wasn’t sure was possible when I first tried.

2022 Update: Two Years into My Keeps Hair Loss Treatment Journey and Going Strong 💪

It's March 2022, and I'm two years into my hair loss treatment journey with Keeps. And I have to say, I'm so glad I did it and stuck with it. I am such a skeptic when it comes to things like this, but as you can see in all of my progress photos, Keeps does work and will continue to work for you if you stick to your routine.

As I've continued to use the treatment, I've setup little tricks for myself to make sure I stay on track. Again, the key to regaining your hair is CONSISTENCY!

Here are 5 things I do with my Keeps hair loss treatment that help me stay on track:

  • Make sure your minoxidil foam is in a can't-miss location – For me, it's right next to my electric toothbrush on the bathroom sink. Most everyone brushes their teeth 1-2x daily (I hope). So, putting your canister right next to your toothbrush ensures you use it every time you brush your teeth.
  • Have a protein shake every AM and take your finasteride pill with it – If you're like me, you probably have at least a few meds or daily supplements to keep you on your game. For me, it's zinc, fish oil, men's multivitamin, and my finasteride. I call it my "masculine stack" and I take it religiously every morning as before I leave the house or sit at my desk.
  • Vigorously massage in your Keeps biotin shampoo and let it marinate for ~3 mins in the shower – I liken this to the way you exfoliate your skin in order to allow treatments and serums to do their thing. The same is true for your hair loss treatments. You want to make sure the treatment shampoo and foam are penetrating deep into your scalp so it can have max effect.
  • If you miss an application, no sweat; double up the next time and keep going – I like to make sure that I'm getting through all my product no matter what. Sometimes life gets in the way and I miss an AM or PM application. If it happens, I'll usually do a double dose to keep me on track. Whether this works medically or not, I can't say. But it does have the psychological benefit of "staying on track" with your treatment, so I do it regardless.
  • Document your progress and share your amazing results – This is a big one for me. I have a photo album on my phone called "Hair 💇🏼‍♂️" where I upload progress photos every month or so to make sure I'm not regressing. It's incredibly fun and rewarding to go back two years and see how much progress I've made.

Maintaining My Results Is Easy With Keeps' New Thickening Shampoo & Conditioner Set

With a fuller head of hair and my eyes set on continued improvement, I began addressing my hair’s thickness to help round out the spots where growth was still sparse. Using biotin shampoo from Amazon was an unsuccessful first attempt, so when Keeps launched their Thickening Shampoo and Conditioner, I knew I had to give it a try.

This dynamic duo is easy on the wallet at $22 a bottle and is filled with everything you need to thicken your hair. Made of four advisor-approved ingredients, the shampoo and conditioner is brimming with biotin to boost keratin production, caffeine to stimulate hair follicles, green tea antioxidants to improve hair quality and saw palmetto which is a natural DHT blocker.
