Goldilocks cookware, formerly known as Potluck cookware, made its debut in 2018. However, in 2021, they decided to rebrand themselves as Goldilocks. The reason behind this change is explained further below. This updated information serves as an update to our initial review.
Imagine someone presenting you with a top-notch kitchen set, equipped with all the essential tools, at an unexpectedly reasonable cost. Well, that someone is here!
Allow me to introduce Goldilocks cookware, the latest addition to the American cookware industry, aiming to revolutionize the traditional norms.
Goldilocks cookware entered the market in the middle of 2018 and recently approached me for a comprehensive review. What caught my attention right away was their fundamental proposition:
“Quality kitchenware for all of us”.
I find this proposition incredibly inclusive. After all, shouldn't all home cooks have access to superior cookware and kitchen utensils at an affordable price? Count me in!
NO FLUFF, JUST FUNCTIONALITY
The no-frills approach in their product offerings also caught my attention. It is evident that they put a great deal of thought into it. Unlike other manufacturers, every item in their sets serves a purpose - there are no unnecessary pots, utensils, or kitchen tools that will go unused.
It makes me wonder why more manufacturers didn't think of this earlier. Personally, I have accumulated numerous spare pots and pans that came with supposedly cost-effective sets, but I never actually use them.
According to Minsuk Kim, one of the co-founders, this realization was the exact inspiration behind the launch of Goldilocks cookware. They observed that most kitchenware sets include filler pieces that only increase the piece count but lack practicality for home cooks. To address this issue, they extensively researched and consulted with actual home cooks to determine the essential kitchenware items, and those are the only pieces they included in their sets.

WHAT IS GOLDILOCKS COOKWARE MADE OF?
Goldilocks cookware is a type of cookware that is made using a triply construction method. It consists of a layer of heavy gauge aluminum that is sandwiched between two layers of Stainless Steel. Unlike other cookware that only has an aluminum disc at the bottom, Goldilocks cookware has a layer of aluminum that runs along the base and up the sides. This construction, also known as 'clad' cookware, offers several benefits.
One of the main advantages of Goldilocks cookware is its ability to provide even heating. The inner layer of aluminum ensures that heat is distributed evenly throughout the cookware, eliminating any hot spots. This means that your food will be cooked uniformly, resulting in better and more consistent cooking results.
HOW DO THEY KEEP THE COSTS SO LOW?
Goldilocks cookware operates on a direct-to-consumer approach, allowing customers to purchase products directly from their website without any additional markup from retailers. Moreover, they adopt a minimal marketing strategy to maintain low costs. Consequently, you won't be burdened with the expenses associated with extravagant advertising campaigns or celebrity endorsements commonly found in larger brands.
HOW DO I KNOW THIS COOKWARE IS OF GOOD QUALITY… SPECIALLY AT THOSE LOW PRICES?
I am frequently asked about how to determine the quality of a cookware set. I can understand why this question arises, as the concept of quality can be quite elusive and subjective. Fortunately, we have some guidelines specifically for Stainless Steel cookware. Now, let's assess the suitability of Goldilocks cookware in accordance with these guidelines.
The grade of Stainless Steel: Goldilocks cookware's pans are crafted using 304 stainless steel for the interior and 430 stainless steel for the exterior. In simple terms, these pans are constructed with top-notch, food-grade stainless steel that is resistant to corrosion on the inside, while the outer layer is made of magnetic stainless steel to ensure compatibility with induction cooking. |
The weight of the pans: Upon first inspection, it is immediately apparent that these pans possess a noticeable quality. The pans exude a sense of solidity and durability, with a weighty feel that strikes the perfect balance between being substantial and not overly burdensome. It is evident that the manufacturers spared no expense when it came to the amount of material used in crafting these pans. This translates to a practical advantage in real-world usage, as the pans are less prone to warping and the occurrence of hot spots. In order to assess the quality of these pans without relying on measuring scales or calipers, I conducted a hands-on test by lifting two pots: an 8qt triply Goldilocks stockpot and another 8qt 5ply stockpot that I frequently use. I can confidently affirm that the Goldilocks pot matched the weight and feel of the 5ply pot. In other words, Goldilocks cookware passed the weight test with flying colors! |
The inner layer or core: The 1050 aluminum is used as the inner layer. If you have conducted any research on cookware, you would be aware that stainless steel alone is not a good heat conductor and requires a middle layer made of a more efficient conductor. Aluminum, being an exceptional conductor of heat, is incorporated in these pans with a substantial thickness, as evident from their weight. |
Finally, it is worth noting that Goldilocks cookware stands out in terms of quality. These pots and pans are produced in the very same factories that manufacture renowned kitchenware brands that you are already acquainted with. Consequently, you can enjoy top-notch quality at a significantly lower cost since you are not paying for the extensive brand marketing or the intermediary.
WHAT DOES GOLDILOCKS COOKWARE LOOK LIKE?
I was initially anticipating a minimalist and simplified appearance for Goldilocks cookware, given the emphasis on functionality. However, I was pleasantly taken aback by the mirror finish and sleek design. As an average home cook, these pots appear to be of premium quality and exude a high-end aesthetic. I would feel proud to showcase such cookware in my kitchen!
WHAT ABOUT THE HANDLES?
The pans are equipped with sturdy stainless steel handles that are firmly attached through rivets. These handles offer a comfortable grip and feature a sleek and streamlined design.
WHAT ARE THE LIDS LIKE?
I have a slight obsession with cookware lids because it is crucial to me that they meet two criteria: they fit snugly without creating a vacuum and there is a lid for every piece of cookware in a set. The lids in this particular set are crafted from solid stainless steel with a polished mirror finish and have a gently curved dome shape. They fit flawlessly on the pans, and the best part is that the lid of the 8qt stock pot also fits the skillet!
This means that every single piece in the set has a corresponding lid, making it a perfect cooking companion.
WE PUT IT TO THE TEST
I have been using the Goldilocks pans for my cooking needs for a few weeks now, and I am extremely impressed! These pans heat up quickly, retain heat effectively, and are easy to clean. If I had to rely on just one set of cookware, I can confidently say that these pans would fulfill all my day-to-day cooking requirements.
When it comes to heating up, I tested the 1.5 qt saucepan by boiling water for noodles. Despite being set on medium heat, the water boiled in just a matter of minutes. Even after adding the noodles, the water continued to bubble, indicating that the pan efficiently transferred and retained heat.
Next, I used the 3 qt saucepan to boil milk for chocolate pudding. Stainless steel pans can be tricky with milk, as it tends to burn easily if not carefully monitored. However, even on medium-low heat, the milk quickly reached a rolling boil in this pan.
One aspect I particularly appreciate about these pans is their handles. Throughout the boiling process, the handles remained cool to the touch. However, I would recommend using potholders for the shorter handles on the stock pot, especially when using a gas stove.
To test the simmering capabilities of the pans, I cooked ground beef in the 8 qt stock pot, added sauce, and let it simmer. I prefer my meat sauce to cook for at least half an hour to allow the flavors to meld and the meat to become tender. The sauce simmered perfectly on the lowest heat setting, indicating that the pan heated evenly and efficiently.
Cleaning these pans is a breeze. After allowing them to cool, I soaked them for a few minutes and then used a soft scrubby to wipe away any food residue. The fact that the food easily wiped off is a testament to the quality of these pans, as it suggests that the heat was distributed evenly during cooking, preventing any hot spots where food could have burned.
After finishing the washing and air drying procedure, I observed the unpleasant appearance of those bothersome white spots on the pans, which result from the accumulation of calcium deposits from the water.
If you are interested in learning more about these stains, I have provided a detailed explanation about stains on stainless steel. However, since these spots were bothering me, I decided to employ a quick vinegar trick to eliminate them. I mixed 1/4 cup of warm water with 1/4 cup of vinegar, swirled it around in the pan, and then rinsed it off. Voila! The pot regained its shiny appearance!
Now, let's take a moment to focus specifically on the 10" skillet.
To begin with, let's clarify the distinction between a skillet and a fry pan: a skillet shares similarities with a fry pan, such as slanted sides, but it tends to be deeper and is equipped with a lid.
The Goldilocks skillet is a remarkable addition to their cooking set, as it includes a 10" skillet with a lid that can be interchanged with the 8qt stockpot. This versatile skillet not only functions as a fry pan but also serves as a small cooking pan.
Once again, I am impressed by the meticulous attention to detail and the emphasis on minimalist utility. Why clutter your kitchen with two separate pans when one can effortlessly fulfill the duties of both?
CAN YOU USE THESE IN THE OVEN? WHAT ABOUT THE BROILER?
These pans have a high oven temperature tolerance of up to 600 F. Additionally, being stainless steel pans, they are also suitable for broiling. This allows you to conveniently begin cooking a dish on the stove top and then seamlessly transfer it to the oven or broiler for finishing touches.
CAN GOLDILOCKS COOKWARE BE USED WITH INDUCTION COOK TOPS?
Goldilocks cookware is indeed dishwasher safe, however, as The Cookware Advisor, I always advise handwashing your pots. In my personal experience, food effortlessly comes off after a good soak. Why expose your exquisite, pristine pans to the abrasive nature of the dishwasher?
WHAT ABOUT SHIPPING AND WARRANTY?
AND NOW THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM.. WHAT’S WITH THE NAME ‘GOLDILOCKS’??
Initially, I must confess that I was a little perplexed by the decision to change the name to Goldilocks cookware. I mean, we all associate Goldilocks with the famous fairy tale, and cookware isn't exactly the first thing that comes to mind in that context.
However, upon further investigation, I discovered the rationale behind it – Goldilocks cookware is designed to be the perfect fit for home cooks. When I stumbled upon this explanation on their website, it was like a light bulb moment for me. I finally understood the concept behind Goldilocks cookware, and I must say, I really appreciate it!
ANY NEGATIVES?
Goldilocks cookware has truly been a game-changer for me. Back when I started out and had to settle for a cheap lightweight set for my frugal starter kitchen, I often wondered where Goldilocks cookware was. But now, whether you're just starting out or on a budget, Goldilocks cookware offers a basic set for only $175, allowing you to equip your entire kitchen for around $300.
The best part is that this cookware is of chef quality, designed to withstand day-to-day use and even a little abuse. I have no complaints whatsoever. Initially, I did notice the absence of an a la carte selection, but that has been rectified. Now, you can purchase individual stock pots, sauce pans, or fry pans at super affordable prices if that's all you need. Goldilocks cookware truly has it all!
FINAL VERDICT?
Goldilocks cookware defies the notion that you always get what you pay for. With its exceptional versatility, superb performance, premium appearance, and excellent value for money, it stands out as an exception to the rule. The Cookware Advisor wholeheartedly recommends it with the enthusiastic verdict of What-Are-You-Waiting-For-Buy-It-Now! So, why delay any longer?
